This September we’ll be in a series we’re calling Incarcerated Joy: A Study in Philippians. In this series we will do a fly-over of the Book of Philippians, highlighting the key theme of joy that runs as a thread throughout the letter. The Apostle Paul writes this joy-filled letter from the confines of a prison cell, and this fact alone causes us to ask the questions, “What is joy? How is it possible for Paul to be overflowing with joy while bound in chains?” As we explore Paul’s letter to followers of Jesus in Philippi we want to consider for ourselves what it practically looks like to be a joy-filled people in the midst of a culture and an empire that seeks to either strip us of joy, or give us false substitutes for true joy. Series begins Sunday, September 1.*

Whatever may be the tensions and the stresses of a particular day, there is always lurking close at hand the trailing beauty of forgotten joy...
