ORDINARY TIME: FOLLOWING JESUS IN THE EVERYDAY PLACES OF LIFE
Most of life is lived in the mundane, but often when we think about following Jesus the spectacular comes to mind: radical acts of service, miracles, healings, fantastic worship services. However, when our perception of following Jesus is limited to the radical and spectacular, we can end up living with our confession of Jesus as Lord having little to no impact on our day to day lives. Yet, there is so much of God to see, encounter, and experience in the small and seemingly ordinary places of life! How do I experience and encounter the presence of God in the mundane places of my life? What does it look like to experience the transformation of the Holy Spirit in the everyday? We explore questions such as these, and more, in this sermon series. The goal of this series to help us begin to see that day to day life does not have to be drudgery, but it is meant to be the very Temple of God. The whole earth is filled with God’s glory---even the subway ride to work, my cubicle, and this ordinary bowl of cereal in front of me.
SOUNDTRACK OF THE SOUL: A SUMMER IN THE PSALMS
In this series we explored Psalms as a collection of songs and poems that were written to shape the life of faith of the people of God. The Psalms have been the songbook of God’s people for millennia, and it’s important for us to learn how to engage and make use of this beautiful work of art. As N.T. Wright says, “The Psalms are not only poetry in themselves; they are to be the cause of poetry in those who sing them, together and individually. They are God’s gifts to us so that we can be shaped as his gift to the world.”

In the Gospel of John the invitation that Jesus gives to those who would become his disciples is the invitation to come and see: come and see who he is, come and see what he's up to in the world, come and see what it means to follow him. Before they began following Jesus, the disciples had a certain expectation in their heads of who the Messiah would be; but Jesus knew that if they accepted his invitation to come and see, what they would find would far exceed what they expected. In this series, we join Jesus in the final leg of his journey on the way to the cross. We pick up the story in the Gospel of Luke at Luke 9:51, where Jesus turns and sets his face toward Jerusalem. Each of us is going a certain direction in our lives---we all have a way that we are walking. This series will lead us to interrogate the questions: Which way am I walking? Am I walking the way of the cross with Jesus or have I chosen a different way?
